Despite many attempts to keep the player at Barca, Neymar ended up breaking the hearts of Barcelona fans by eventually leaving the club for the French giants, Paris Saint German (PSG).
In as much as he was having a lovely time at Barca, Neymar still insisted on leaving the club and people have been wondering why. Some say it’s because of the money; that such an amount offered to him is irresistible and attractive. Some say it’s because of issues he was having at the club concerning tax, whereas some people believe that it’s because Neymar wants to leave the shadows of Lionel Messi and go on to be the Best Player in the World.
Finally, the reason why Neymar left Barca has been revealed:
NEYMAR insists he swapped Barcelona for Paris to grab Champions League glory.
Paris Saint-Germain smashed the world transfer record when they captured the Brazil star from the Nou Camp for £198million last month. An eye-watering £500,000-a-week is also being paid into his bank account.
But the man who won eight major trophies in four seasons alongside Lionel Messi in Spain says his new club has more chance of winning the Champions League than his last.
His makes a European debut for his new club against Celtic at Parkhead tomorrow.
Neymar, 25, said: “One of my biggest reasons for joining PSG was to help the club write history. The Champions League is not the only trophy we want to win — but it is a very important trophy.
“The aim this season is to try and win it — that is the level the club are now at. I do believe we are capable of winning the tournament.
He also went further to elaborate on why he thinks PSG will carry the champions league, as he explained that they have a lot of players with quality and experience:
“Not only do we have the quality but we have the experience — the players who know what it takes to win the Champions League.
“I have won the tournament, Dani Alves has won it three times, Thiago Motta has won it at Barcelona and Inter, Angel Di Maria has won it with Real Madrid. We not only have quality but real experience.”
And the Brazilian says he is unfazed about his record-smashing price tag.
He said: “Transfer fees have nothing to do with the players. All we are interested in is playing for clubs where it will be a great challenge and where we can be successful.
“The business of the transfer fee is between the two clubs — players just want to concentrate on the football.”
