 Okay calm down! I’m sure that some people are already pissed while reading this because in this time and age, virginity isn't given much value. As a matter of fact, people rather boast about the number of times they've had sex to intimidate their peers. According to Africa tradition, after the groom sleeps with the lady on a white bed sheet and is confirmed that she is indeed chaste(a virgin), there will be another round of funfair where the guy will once again go to the parents of the bride with dancers and drummers but if the man sleeps with the bride and discovers she is not chaste, it will be the exact opposite where the lady will be escorted back to her parents' house with people jeering negatively at her and all the groom ever gave the parents on the lady with the hope that the lady is what he taught will be refunded and such ladies are usually banished.

UGANDA'S CUSTOM

In the first place, the re-naming of bride price as marriage-gifts, regardless of the reason behind it, is reductionist and misleading. This is certainly true of the Langi in northern Uganda, where the receipt of cattle by a woman’s birth family (lineage) converts her lineage to that of her husband’s. But she can also free herself (and her fertility rights) from her husband and his lineage by invoking the same jural seal (cattle). The invocation is symbolized by the return of the cattle (seal) back to the origin (ex-husband). Only then will she reclaim her birth lineage.

A NIGERIAN CUSTOM
The average Nigerian wedding today takes four phases basically, which obviously does not mean getting married four different times to four different persons, but to the same person in four different ways, as dictated by religion, culture, tradition, and civil law.
According to Fawehinmi, in Yoruba Land, the Introduction Ceremony is the First Phase. Families of the intending couple formally meet for acquaintances and assert their consent to the proposed marriage. Some are done in a living room setting with strictly the nuclear or immediate extended families in attendance, and for some others, only the paying of Bride Price separates this from the proper engagement ceremony. During many Introductions these days, the groom and his friends prostrate severally to the bride’s family (signifying a plea to marry their daughter), intending couple cuts the cake, spokespersons representing the bride’s family and the person standing for the groom’s side are used, gifts such as fruits, wine and drinks are exchanged and so on.) The Second Phase is called The Traditional Wedding. The Court Wedding is the Third Phase: This is the only form of wedding recognized by law; a legal licence for a woman to take up her man’s name and officially become “Ìyàwó Alárédè” (Legal Wife). This, in most cases, is only attended by direct relations and some friends. But if the couple intends to skip Phase Four, this might be the “big deal”. COMMENTRY
Now that we've been educated on the traditional practices and customs of different places that make or made use of bride price, we have to ask ourselves a very vital question; what is the rational behind paying money to get married to a woman you love? Doesn’t it seem like women are being purchased like goods because they'll tell you that ‘if you have value for something/someone, you have to pay for it' Are u kidding me? If money isn't paid before a man can take a woman with him to start a family with, will it reduce the value of the woman? Does it make her precious or it just equates her to a good or property that needs to be valued by “purchasing” it? And to further understand the extent of the preposterousness, just like a good or item, you can return it(her) back to her parents if she is “damaged”, requesting that her purchase fee (bride price) be returned to you. This is absurd if you ask me. A woman's value should be priceless! Anyway, I don’t blame families because these days, some families use their daughters as a means of getting wealth. This is what women have been reduced to and it’s a pity. Another disappointing thing is that we don’t see female activists advocating for the abolishment of this practice. I guess they also like being bought from their parents.  

President Buhari pays Biafra police pension

Of all the things that have transpired between the Federal government of Nigeria, under the leadership of APC's Muhammadu Buhari v. those agitating to secede from Nigeria, known as ‘Biafrans', this act by the president has definitely gotten some people's attention. I guess we didn’t see this coming. 

The Nigerian President has approved the payment of pension to police officers who served under the then Biafra police during the civil war. According to report, this was contained in a statement released on Wednesday, October 18 by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD). It was announced that about 162 of such retired police officers and 57 Next of Kin will be paid their benefits in the first phase which kicks off this month.

 The Biafran police officers were granted presidential pardon in 2000, during the tenor of ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo. The statement read: “The general public would recall that Nigeria witnessed an ugly civil war between July, 1967 and January, 1970 and as a result of that unfortunate period in our history, some members of the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police and paramilitary officers who took part with the Secessionist were dismissed from the service. “The dismissal of those officers was commuted to retirement in the year 2000 through a Presidential Amnesty granted on 29th May, 2000 by the Administration of the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

MY COMMENTRY: Having seen this, an average pragmatic Nigerian will have reasons to believe that the president is trying to make things right, so as to reduce the tension in Nigeria. Whether the Biafran agitators will appreciate this is another issue to contend with.

Nigeria will play with the reserve team against Algeria

The Assistant Coach of Super Eagles of Nigeria, Salisu Yusuf on Monday said that he would use more reserve players for the 2018 world cup qualifier against Algeria on Nov.11.

Yusuf made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while speaking on the team’s preparation for the Algeria match. He said that the match would enable the coaching crew to not only try the reserves but also select players for the final in Russia.

“Some of the players have not been opportune to play, so this match will offer them such opportunity. We know there is nothing to be scared of because we already have the world cup ticket but our interest now is to have a blended team” Yusuf said.

The coach pledged that the Super Eagles would not lose any of their matches, adding that they were ready to win the game against Algeria.

The super Eagles currently lead Group B with 13 points and will slug it out with the Algerian side on Nov. 11, in Algiers.

NAN reports that FIFA has confirmed Gabonese Eric Castane as the centre referee while Aboubacar Doumbouya of Guinea and Burkina Faso’s Seydou Tiama will serve as his assistants.

MY COMMENTRY: Okay now this has got me wondering; why do u have such a mindset? So because Nigeria has qualified, it now gives us the permission to joke with our final game right? I totally understand that Nigeria has already qualified for thte World Cup, however, I still believe that Nigeria has more ambition than just qualifying. So far, we haven’t lost any game through out the qualification stages so why don’t we keep it that way? 

On the other hand, it's also a pragmatic tactic that’s about to be adopted by the Super Eagles' technical team to rest the “relevant” players so that they won’t sustain any unnecessary injury. My point still remains that our last match should be taken seriously.

Watch ex-president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo featuring in a comedy skit. Very funny indeed

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasonjo stars in comedy skit - Comedian, Samuel Ajibola, who played 'Dele' is the brain behind it. In the video - Baba (the ex-president) suggested that Dele (played by Samuel Ajibola) should run for President, as he would be supported financially for his political campaign in the comedy short film, only for Dele to wake up and realise that it was all a dream. On waking up, Dele was so upset with his roommate who woke him up from such a fantastic dream by pouring water on him while he was having a time of his life in dream world. Dele then warned his roommate that if "Baba" (that is Chief Obasanjo) does not make him president, his roommate must make him President. As Dele chases his roommate out of the house and into the compound, the comedy skit comes to an end.

The skit is aimed at promoting the inclusion of young, vibrant and competent persons into vital decision making positions in Nigeria, especially political offices, in contemplation of the forthcoming general elections. The intention is that; hopefully, the trend in a lot of African countries, especially Nigeria where aged persons keep running for and are elected into Political offices despite their lack of competence would, to a large extent be reduced or expunged entirely.

It was  earlier reported how former President Olusegun Obasonjo was set to star in a comedy skit featuring comedian Samuel Ajibola. Just few hours ago, the video of the skit was released online and everyone is having a good laugh.

Dele who is the brilliant comedian behind it all had the rare opportunity of meeting with Obasonjo in person and took advantage of that single meeting. His plan was to make his fans laugh with former president as the star of the show. 

The video has been circulating online and based on the speculations, Dele might be on his way to start a political career, aiming for the seat of the president. This episode features the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo and was released today 14th October, 2017.

Samuel Ajibola who is popularly known as Spiff in the sitcom ‘The Johnsons’ made the announcement on social networking site Instagram, where he wrote; 

“I’ve had this picture for Months, but I’ve been looking at this Picture for the past 3 days, knowing I was going to post it up this Morning but not knowing what to write under it as a Caption. Then I woke up this Morning and the first song that came to me was: 

you raised me up so I can stand on mountains, you raised me up to walk on stormy seas, I am strong when I’m on your shoulders, you raise me up to more than I can be.

And then I got it! This is it! What I have been looking for. My caption would revolve around the Grace of God. To start with, Who am I? that on my very own first project as a Producer (I’m talking about the Dele Issues nonsense I’ve been disturbing you guys with every time on social media..lol) , that I would have the privilege of having a Former president of my Country (Chief Olusegun Obasanjo) feature in my own skit because of an idea I just conceived in my mind once? I meant, as at the time I thought of this idea I thought I was just being crazy, but then again I remembered a quote I’ve seen some time ago that says: your dreams are not Big if they don’t scare you."

Who knew that our ex-president had such a talent, a comedian? Wow! I'm wondering what else he knows how to do that he has been hiding in his closet. Hmmm, i'm also wondering if our current president, Muhammadu Buhari has a surprise for us as well. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona to Mancity

The Argentine and Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi is really considering  the idea of signing for Manchester City in 2018. What most people thought and still think is impossible might just happen because Manchester City, under the management of Guardiola, have been trying to lure the football maestro to City.

And Messi is torn over signing a new contract at the Nou Camp or beginning a new chapter in his career in Manchester.

Negotiations with Barca have been ongoing for 18 months but the deal remains unsigned.

City officials have met with Messi's representatives on several occasions — making it clear they want him.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at Barca next summer and could sign for City in January and join for free in July.

City are understood to have offered a £40million signing-on fee and a five-year deal worth over £500,000 per week.
