BY ADEMOLA FEBIAN ADEBOWALE ESQ., PURPOSE This article aims to explore ways by which a winner of a senatorial election in Nigeria is determined vis-à-vis Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), Electoral Act 2022 and INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of Elections 2022. KEYWORDS Electoral Act, Margin of lead principle, Election, Constitution, INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of Elections. INTRODUCTION Amidst the vibrant tapestry of democracy, one timeless element reigns supreme: the sacrosanct ritual of elections. Nowhere is this revered practice more evident than in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where it finds its rightful place in the very heart of the Constitution. Truly, the Constitution stands as “the fons et origo,” an unwavering beacon of governance and the “grundnorm”—the bedrock upon which the entire legal framework takes form, meaning and origin from. In this great nation, the Constitution's hallowe

LET LOVE LIVE

Oh love ! It’s such a special word but we abuse it. We say it all the time but we have no idea what we mean. We claim to feel it whereas we don’t have a clue what it feels like. See ee ! Love is sweet oh ! Chey ! Love… I’m not a certified expert on love but I believe that I know what love feels like. Before I talk further, I think it’ll b appropriate to define what love is: Love is a profound and intense feeling of affection, attraction and care towards someone or something. I’m aware that many books written by people provide that there are different types of love. Let’s not get it twisted I’m talking about romantic love…Yeah, that kind of love that exists btw couples, a guy and a girl. Initially, you get attracted to someone for their physical appearance, however, if cupid shoots you his arrow you’ll be like a fool. (Lol) You’ll think I’m joking but I’m serious. When your in love with someone, seeing the person tickles you inside, hearing his/her voice sensates you, getting close to the person disarms you and makes you so vulnerable. Love seems weak but it’s the direct opposite because love is strong, stronger than anything you can imagine but it’s only effective when both partners feel the same way towards each other. If it’s one sided, it’s dangerous and it’s more or less, obsession. I am a die hard fan of love. I can even say that I love love. I know that it’s not common for a guy to talk about love this way but hey ! maybe I’m not a common breed. I watch all kinds of movies including romantic movies. I even watch ‘telemundo’ and other telenovelas . What I’ve noticed is that many Nigerians are scared to allow themselves feel love for someone and I understand why. The simple reason is that we don’t want to get hurt, especially the ladies. Nigerian ladies don’t even want to feel and express love for a guy because they are not sure that he’s going to get married to them. They say that they can only love a guy when he “puts a ring on it”. Awwwwn, it’s cute how ladies feel like love is a socket that u can plug something and remove it at any time. We forget that marriages break up too so does that mean that we shouldn’t love at all? It’s a renowned fact that ladies love more than guys and when she loves, she loves with everything and she’s willing to share everything she has with the guy she loves, even her body. Women have experienced situations where a guy claims to be in love with them and when they express their love for him, he eventually abandons them or cheats on them. The girl then cries bitterly, cries like she has never done before, not even for her parents. She feels a sharp pain in her chest, it hurts so much that to get rid of that pain, she bandages her heart and locks it with a padlock. These days, girls are calculative in relationships, they are focused, guarding themselves so that no “stupid guy” will ever hurt them again. With this level of distrust, love is dying everyday. My advice however is: ‘let love live’ , don’t kill it. I know it’s hard but you cannot leave school because you failed an exam, even if it’s not your fault. This is where strength is required. Fight to make sure that you keep the love flag flying because someday, when the right person comes, you’ll feel the best sensation in your heart that you’ve never felt before and the world will envy your relationship because they know they can’t have what you and your partner share. Like Romeo & Juliet, he’ll sneak to your window to confess his love for you, he’ll spend most of his time thinking about you, he’ll hold u with love and care, just the way you like it. He’ll call you late at night just to hear your angelic voice while the world is asleep. When genuine love comes, and you have to believe that it will, the ecstasy will overwhelm you. You can’t think straight rather your mind will be occupied with the well being of your lover, your smoochie poo. Love trusts, love gives and love sacrifices as well. There are other things in this life but if two people love each other genuinely, no force…I repeat, no damn force in this world can stop them.
